Case Study: My Thyroid & Me

Our client Butterfly Thyroid Cancer Trust approached us with a new and ambitious brief. Building on our earlier patient support film, Thyroid Cancer Uncovered: A Patient’s Guide, they wanted to create a resource tailored to children and young people.

Unlike many other cancers, thyroid cancer disproportionately affects younger people. But high-quality, age-appropriate support for these patients is rare. The charity wanted to change that.

Creating a medical support film for a young audience presents unique challenges. The content is emotionally charged and filled with complex procedures and terminology. It needed to be honest, not overwhelming; informative, yet accessible. And crucially, it had to speak both to young people and to their parents or carers.

The breakthrough came when we met Molly, a young thyroid cancer patient. Molly is also an artist. Her drawings became the heart of the film. By bringing Molly’s artwork to life, we were able to tell her story in a way that felt authentic, warm and relatable.

You’ve done such an incredible job! I was sobbing by the end.
— Dr Rebecca Owen

My Thyroid and Me is a heartfelt film about illness, resilience and family. It is the story of a girl and her mum navigating treatment together, supported by professionals who understand the value of kindness. With humour and heart, and Molly’s wonderful illustrations, the film gently guides the audience through uncertainty and into hope.
